POSITION: Sales Manager:

REPORTING TO: Regional Managing Director
Salary Expectation: Offer for this position is R 550,000 Total Cost to Company annually’ i.e.
R 45 800 per month and the employee will have to join our Old Mutual pension fund.
- Minimum Sales Management/ Supply Chain Management Diploma or relevant qualification;
- 3-5 years’ experience in planning and implementing sales strategies;
- 3-5 years’ experience in sales/supply chain environment in the rail industry;
- 2 years’ experience in a supervisory / leadership role, preferably Management role;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Proven dedication to providing great customer service;
- Computer Literacy in Microsoft essential;
- A knowledge of SAGE Evolution will be advantageous;
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To maximize sales department potential and services in meeting customer requirements and revenue growth targets by keeping our company competitive and innovative. Managing and ensuring best pricing structures, delivery schedules to match client requirements and the effective control and maintenance of a core product supplier base and stocking optimization in and around the sales team.
Brief Description of task and duties
§ Enhancing staff accomplishments and competence by planning the Sales Department delivery of solutions, answering technical and procedural questions for less experienced team members, teaching improved processes and mentoring team members;
§ Managing and directing all activities, disciplinary, skills development and performance measurement of the sales team;
§ Preparing and managing submission of tenders and enquiries;
§ Understanding and analysing the Groups’ ideal customers and how they relate to our products;
§ Identifies business opportunities by identifying prospects and evaluating their position in the industry, researching and analysing sales options;
§ Selling products, establishing contacts and developing relationships with prospects and recommending solutions;
§ Setting sales targets with the sales team, drawing up Sales Departments budgets and presenting such to Management;
§ Maintaining relationships with clients by providing support, information, guidance, researching, recommending new opportunities and recommending profit and service improvements;
§ Identifying product improvements or new products by remaining current on industry trends, market activities, and competitors;
§ Preparing reports by collecting, analysing, and summarizing Sales data for Management;
§ Maintaining quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards;
§ Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional national and international publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, participating in professional Sales and Business societies;
§ Interacting with supply chain and finance departments on international shipments and indents/payments;
§ Handling customer’s sales quotations via telephone and through emails as quickly as possible and allocating them to specific Sales staff for following up and closing them;
§ Directing prospective contacts to the field sales team;
§ Capturing and updating customer information/details into the company’s customer/client’s database;
§ Assisting the Supply Chain Team to ensure effective control and maintenance of a core product supplier base, product stocking requirements and optimization thereof;
§ Controlling and maintaining core product client pricing structures, contracts and escalations thereof, etc;
§ Developing and localization of core Transnet, Prasa and other customer products where possible;
§ Monitoring and managing sales of the Surtees Group companies to make sure that they receive appropriate service level;
§ Maintaining and developing existing product agencies and the sourcing and development of new product agencies;
§ Attendance of domestic and international rail exhibitions where necessary;
§ Managing discipline and all other employee related matters of the sales department according to the SGH policies and procedures.
§ Loading of sales orders on system;
§ Managing, coordinating, directing and assisting with preparation of invoicing;
§ Assisting with Stock taking;
§ Reviewing weekly call reports of all internal and external sales representatives;
§ Measuring enquiries to order success rates;
§ Margin analysis;
§ Automate systems and processes.
